The African Ashiko drum is also known as a Boku drum in Cuba.
This Ashiko drum has a 12 inch playing surface and is 25 inches tall. With open legs the drum can stand on the floor and comfortably played without the need to hold the drum. The bottom of the drum is sufficiently open to allow the drum to breath and produce a very robust sound.
The Ashiko drum produces a wide range of tones from deep bass to high slap tone. The Ashiko’s voice is very clear and crisp, especially at the upper end of the scale. The Ashiko is a very nice addition to the drum circle or percussion ensemble cutting through the largest of groups with a unique voice.
