Bougarabous are a West African drum from Casamance in the south of Senegal. These are the best soundsing Bougarabous we have ever had. They produce a rich mid tone and a nice round thunderous bass complementing the Djembes in the circle or ensemble.
This Bougarabou has a large 13 inch playing surface and is 24 inches tall and weighs between 19 and 22 pounds
100% hand built by expert drum builders in Ghana. They are constructed from a single piece of legally harvested Masonia wood. A special hard wax is applied to the bottom and bearing (area of the drum where the head stretches over the shell) edges to reduce the risk of cracking. The inner and outer shell surfaces are treated with a natural coconut oil finish which brings out the beauty and hydrates the Masonia wood. The head is calf for extra durability and a deep warm tone. Antelope skins are avoided for environmental reasons. These drums have a beautiful voice and a provocative spirit.
