The African Ashiko drum is also known as a Boku drum in Cuba.
This Ashiko drum has an 11 inch playing surface and is 25 inches tall. With open legs the drum can stand on the floor and be comfortably played without the need to hold the drum. The bottom of the drum is sufficiently open to allow the drum to breath and produce a very robust sound.
The Ashiko drum produces a range of tones from thumpy bass to clear high tones. The Ashiko's voice is very earthy, close to a Conga drum but more open sounding.
The Calf skin drum head is very durable and well suited for using drum sticks or mallets. Always a great hand drum!
The Ashiko is a very nice addition to the drum circle or percussion ensemble cutting through the largest of groups with a unique voice.
