The base of the drum may have scuff marks or other blemishes that don't impact the sound quality of the drum. A great buy for someone not interested in a refined or "furniture" looking finish. It plays and sounds great. 

The natural beauty of the mahogany wood is enhanced with a deep cherry stain. This drum is made from a single piece of kiln dried select grade plantation grown mahogany. The shells are lathe turned for a consistent/open sound and easy tuning. The goat skin head is from the back of the goat where the skin is thicker and more consistent. This produces a more robust sound. These drums are roped tuned tightly for great bass and crisp slap tones with non-stretch weather resistant alpine rope.
