Mud Cloth Djembe Shirt

From the village of Burkina Faso, West Africa, meaning "Men of integrity".  This is an Authentic Kobla Yabla (open sided dashiki shirt).

100% cotton, hand spun and hand woven mud cloth or Bogolanfini (“Bo-ho-lahn-FEE-nee”). 

This shirt is entirely hand made using traditional Mud Cloth techniques which are centuries old.  The dyes are made from mud and plants.

The colors chosen for these shirts represent the colors that provide protection to those who wear them.

Mud Cloth is traditionally woven by the men on small looms. They weave the cotton into long strips called Finimugus which are about 5 inches wide. The women then sew the strips/Finimugus together to make the shirts and complete the dying process.

The sides of these shirts are completely open and held together by one strap on each side which is 6 inches wide.  The shirt includes a pocket located in the front center.  Once washed, they are soft, open and very comfortable on those hot drumming days. Throw them over a shirt or jacket when night falls and temperatures cool down.
