Fair Trade in African Drums

What about the labor practices used to build your African Drum?

Ensuring that the craftsmen who built your African Drum received fair compensation for their labor is not an easy task. Much of this responsibility rests with the exporter/broker in the country of origin and with the importer/retailer selling the drums in the U.S.

World Wide Drums relies on the relations we have established with our brokers in Africa and Indonesia. We have invested a significant amount of time and money finding people we know we can trust. They come with impressive referrals and clean background checks.

Finding people who will adhere to fair trade practices was surprisingly difficult. Many of the people attempting to do business with us voluntarily drop out of our process. Apparently, there are enough business opportunities available where they don't have to invest in fair trade practices. World Wide Drums is currently seeking certification though several fair trade organizations.
