Overview
Sangban Djun - A Punchy Dense Sounding Djun from West Africa
Description

The Small Djun Djun measures 22 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter.

As with the Djembe, the Djun Djun also originated in West Africa. These authentic Djun Djuns are the real deal. These drums are hand crafted in Ghana and are of a professional quality. Also known as dundun or dun dun, they accompany the Djembe in a symbiotic relationship.
Typically sold as a set, the largest drum is called the doundoumba, the medium is the sangban, and baby of the family is the kenkeni.

These drums are masterfully carved in a traditional West African pattern. The drums are constructed of a single piece of legally harvested Masonia wood. The heads are made of cow hide for durability as they are played with sticks. The hair is left on the heads to eliminate any ringing sounds and to provide a nice heavy bottom end.

Alpine lacing is used to ensure durability and to reduce the effects of weather on the tone. The bearing edge of the drum, the surface where the head stretches over the drum's shell, is coated in wax to seal the end grain of the wood and reduce the chances of the shell cracking. This also aids in opening up the sound of the drum by allowing the head to vibrate freely. The crown rings are wrapped in cloth to prolong the life of the rope. These drums come with braded rope handles attached to both ends for ease of handling.
