Overview
Learn to play the Talking Drum
Description

Drum Damba book, by David Locke: Damba is an annual New Year's festival celebrated by the Dagbamba people of Ghana, West Africa. Famous for their use of the Luna, Tama or Talking Drum, a drum that imitates the spoken language, the Dagbamba has a rich history of music and culture. This book recreates the traditional method of teaching used by the Dagbamba people.

David Locke is the Chair of the music department at Tufts University. Abubakari Lunna is the renowned drummer and culture expert of the Dagbamba people of northern Ghana.

Review:
Roderic Knight, Oerlin College: "Talking Drum Lessons is a book of unique values for its retention of the traditional African teaching method. While using western notation, David Locke nonetheless passes on the music as he learned it from some of Ghana's leading performers."

Companion Drum Damba CD sold separately.
