The slit drum could quite possibly be the oldest known drum with its origin being a hollow log.

This Slit Drum measures 20" X 8" and produces a wonderfully resonant sound with varying pitches depending on where you strike to drum. One side of the drum is carved flat for easy positioning and playing on a flat surface. Other Slit Drums without the flat side tend to roll around on you while playing.
